Here at Karma for Cara, we put a big emphasis on recognizing leaders in service and unsung heroes. So K4C decided to kick off 2015 by recognizing a pair of outstanding nurses, Sue Ramzy, BSN, RN, and Harold Hardinger, BSN, RN.

On Wednesday, January 7, Karma for Cara officially expanded our Excellence in Nursing award program. Over the past couple of years, we have twice handed out an award to a Johns Hopkins Hospital nurse during the Kimmel Cancer Center One Night, One Show, One Cause annual event….

Service comes in all shapes and sizes. Media Works, a Baltimore media marketing agency, exemplified this throughout 2014 when its employees participated in 25 Acts of Kindness.

“Jody [Berg], our CEO, sent an email at the beginning of the year about our 25th anniversary and everything we were planning on doing,” said Amy Kelly, Media Works Media Assistant. “She wanted to do the 25 Acts of Kindness.”

As a group, Media Works’ approximately 30 employees came up with ideas for volunteer activities they could do together, as well as individual endeavors….

On December 23, the Karma for Cara team and friends baked chocolate chip cookies at the Ronald McDonald House near Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago! BALTIMORE, Nov. 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — It’s never too early to instill in children the importance of community service. “Cara Cookie Volunteers,” the first children’s book released by the Baltimore-based nonprofit Karma for Cara Foundation, tells the story of a young girl named Cara and her first volunteer experience. Starting last month, copies of “Cara Cookie Volunteers” began being distributed to elementary schools and libraries throughout Baltimore and Chicago. Last week, Karma for Cara was busy with a new kind of project. We were in Baltimore working on “Inspire to Serve,” a short documentary. The doc focuses on Cara and her commitment to volunteering, even when she herself was in need. Keeping with this theme, we partnered with our friends at Living Classrooms Foundation to highlight two outstanding students in Baltimore who attend Crossroads School, a charter school run through Living Classrooms. Service is an integral part of Crossroads School’s curriculum….

With the beginning of October comes the official settling in of fall. This month promises to be full of colorful leaves, warm sweaters, pumpkin everything and, most importantly, Karma for Cara events.

On Saturday, October 11, Bare Hills Raquet and Fitness Club is hosting the second annual Karma for Cara Spin-a-thon. The six-hour outdoor fundraiser runs from 8 a.m….

At Karma for Cara we strive to provide recognition to outstanding leaders in service by featuring them on our website as a Hero. The Heroes we are looking to recognize are those who are passionately making a difference in the lives of others. The Heroes currently featured on our website have found creative ways to give back to their community such as Rose Becker who asked that in lieu of presents for her Bat-Mitzvah that people make donations to Karma for Cara, and Natalie Newman who was the top fundraiser at the Kennedy Krieger Institute’s ROAR for Autism Event….

The Karma for Cara crew had a happily very busy summer! We welcomed back Abby and our new summer intern Nisha to the K4C family. This summer, Nisha focused on researching and implementing a K4C Excellence in Nursing Award. The second nurses award will be presented at the “PRS Guitars One Night, One Show, One Cause” event in Baltimore on October 13 featuring Santana.
