Q&A With Microgrant Recipient Zach

Karma for Cara Microgrants help fund exceptional service projects led by youth 18 and under working to better their communities. Read about our microgrant recipient, Zach, a 10-year-old who started Lidz for Kidz, which donates hats and puts on movie and pizza parties for children undergoing cancer treatment at a variety of children’s hospitals.

1. What inspired you to start Lidz for Kidz?

I saw a couple of St. Jude’s commercials on TV and they made me feel bad for the kids who were battling cancer.  I felt bad they were losing their hair.  I have an awesome baseball cap collection, and I thought I would like to donate baseball caps and hats to them to make them feel better if they were losing their hair.

2. Why is your work important to you?

Lidz for Kidz is important to me because in the 2 ½ years that I’ve been doing it, I can see the difference it makes for the kids.  They get so excited to get a new baseball cap or trendy hat, or a toy from the treasure chest of courage project that I started.

3. How did the money from the microgrant help with your project?

The money from the grant has enabled me to purchase additional caps and hats to be able to continue donating to the kids.

4. What message of giving back do you have for others?

My message would be that everyone should find something that is really important to them and find a way to make a difference.  No matter how young you are, you can make a difference.  Be the change.
