Karma for Cara Microgrants help fund exceptional service projects led by youth 18 and under working to better their communities. Read about our microgrant recipient, Robyn, a 17-year-old who volunteers with “Wonders & Worries”. Wonders & Worries help children whose parents have a life threatening illness by sending child life specialists to talk with the children, answer any questions and help manage their stress. They also provide each child with a blanket.
1.What inspired you to start this project?
When I was in the 4th grade i found out my dad had stage 2 colon cancer. This news turned my whole life upside down and I had no idea where to even begin coping. My mom got me and my brother involved in an organization called Wonders&Worries. This group is a non-profit that helps kids under the age of 18 deal with having a family member living with a terminal illness. Wonders&Worries gave me a security blanket that helped me feel like someone was always there for me even when I was all alone. Years later, this event sparked my idea to make blankets for kids who are in the situation that I was in.
