Volunteer Spotlight: Media Works participates in 25 Acts of Kindness

Categories:

Service comes in all shapes and sizes. Media Works, a Baltimore media marketing agency, exemplified this throughout 2014 when its employees participated in 25 Acts of Kindness.

“Jody [Berg], our CEO, sent an email at the beginning of the year about our 25th anniversary and everything we were planning on doing,” said Amy Kelly, Media Works Media Assistant. “She wanted to do the 25 Acts of Kindness.”

As a group, Media Works’ approximately 30 employees came up with ideas for volunteer activities they could do together, as well as individual endeavors.

As the year passed, the group participated in charitable walks, cleanups, clothing drives, blanket drives and more.

Kelly said a group favorite was making dinner at the Hackerman-Patz House at Sinai Hospital.

“Everyone loves doing those,” she said. “You get to meet the families that are staying there and just talk with them, and it’s just a really fun thing to do.”

The group also hosted a charity happy hour supporting Show Your Soft Side, a Baltimore public service campaign against animal abuse. The entire team worked together to pull off the event, with CEO Berg bartending for the evening.

Media Works employees also documented individual volunteering efforts as part of the 25 acts. One memorable act involved an employee adopting a stray cat that had been roaming around Media Works’ business park.

Although the company made an effort to document its 25 Acts of Kindness in 2014, Media Works is no stranger to service. They annually adopt families to donate gifts to at the holidays, and have been an avid supporter of Karma for Cara. Media Works has helped us by featuring Karma for Cara at its 25th Anniversary Celebration, donating to our organization and supporting Lema J with Media Works branded earbud Tacos.

The end of 2014 does not mean the close of volunteering for the Media Works employees, either.

“We had a lot of fun doing it, so we are going to continue on with it this year,” Kelly said.
