Karma for Cara Microgrants help fund exceptional service projects led by youth 18 and under to better their communities. Read about our microgrant recipient, Hannah a 17-year-old who volunteers with Wake up Walton. This May, Wake up Walton recruited 350 volunteers to work at the homes of senior citizens by painting, planting flowers, cleaning up yards and gardens.
1. How did you become involved with Wake up Walton?
Wake up Walton was a project that was started in my high school. My friends were doing it while they were in high school, so once I became a freshman I joined the project.
2. Why is your work important to you?
This is important to me because I live in a small town. This is the only project done through the school and community that helps our own town. It’s really great to see our work we did to people’s yards in our own little town.
3. How did the money from the microgrant help with your project?
The money helped get supplies, t-shirts, food for breakfast, and mulch. Mulch is always one of our biggest expenses!
4. What message of giving back do you have for others?
When you give back you not only help them, but you help yourself and the whole community. One little act of kindness goes a long way.
